About the Counsellor.

Scott Hudson started his working life trying out many different jobs before realising that he was good at helping people to heal. This led him to start training as a registered nurse and he has spent most of his career in Emergency and ICU nursing, interacting with many patients and relatives in acute physical, emotional and mental crisis.  During this time he realised that while he had skills to help people in acute physical crisis, he was spending more of his time with people who needed counselling regarding their health or illness. This led to Scott focusing on counselling acute and chronic health issues and undertaking formal qualifications in counselling. With 30 + years of experience in front-line healthcare and several degrees later he has moved into offering counselling services for the local Gippsland community.

Current professional qualifications

Grad Cert Counselling, Diploma of Counselling (With Majors in Conflict resolution, Grief and Loss Counselling).

Some key points about counselling.

Counsellors in most cases do not offer advice. I will not tell you what I think you should do.  You are the expert on you!

Through several sessions the counsellor can help you uncover your best solutions to your problems and help you identify your goals, and strategies to obtain them. We will work together using evidenced based therapy such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution Focused Therapy to help you obtain your best outcomes. The best therapy is decided with you based on what your focus and goal is, and what appeals to you as offering the best outcome.

 What is counselling?

Counselling is also referred to as "talk therapy" and involves the process of opening up and exploring issues you may have in a supported non-judgemental environment.

Some issues may be obvious to you and be the reasons you are attending counselling, while some issues might emerge as therapy is commenced.

Counsellors do not prescribe drugs or make medical diagnosis of mental health conditions. Counsellors can refer you on to other health professionals that may be more appropriate for your need for counselling, or to provide holistic care.

Counsellors generally focus on the current issues that you are experiencing as opposed to psychotherapists who focus on chronic or reoccurring problems.

Generally, counselling sessions last for 1 hour, with an average of 6 sessions. Cost per session is $110 for in-office counselling.

Every person is an individual and sessions are tailored to individual needs. Please discuss any concerns or questions you may have at time of booking. There is a cancellation policy and this will be discussed when making a booking.

The counselling office is wheelchair friendly. If you require Rural or Palliative counselling home visits, please call to discuss eligibility.
